Atlassian Server Offers: discontinuation and price revision

discontinuation of Atlassian server offerings and rate increase

Atlassian has announced an important change in the marketing of its software. Atlassian has decided to stop marketing its server offers on all its products: Jira Core, Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket and Crowd. SmartView offers to support its customers in this transition. Aurélie Assouline and Stéphane Genin go over the main points.

Why these changes on Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo and Crowd from Atlassian?

The editor has chosen to focus and invest on its Cloud offerings in order to provide a better quality of service and eventually become a company mainly present on the Cloud.

By the end of 2020, 90% of new Atlassian customers worldwide will be using cloud applications.

In conjunction with this announcement, Marketplace partners have begun delivering plugins that facilitate the migration of applications from Server to Cloud.

What are the dates to keep in mind regarding the termination of Atlassian's server offerings?

February 2, 2021: stop marketing new server licenses

Atlassian is no longer selling perpetual Server licenses and is definitely moving to Cloud and Data Center license subscriptions.

In addition, there is a price increase for the renewal of server licenses and a price revision for data center subscriptions.

Atlassian also stops at this date to propose new functionalities on its Server offer.

February 2, 2022: freeze the number of users per server license.

It will then no longer be possible to modify the user slices (upgrade & downgrade).

February 2, 2023: Impossible to buy new plugins for Server on the Atlassian Marketplace.

It will no longer be possible to purchase Server plugins.

February 2, 2024: End of support for Atlassian "Server

Atlassian stops the support and the updates of the applications of its Server offer.

Which Atlassian applications are affected?

Server offerings: Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Crowd.

Specifically, if you have "Server" licenses for Jira Software, Jira Core, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bitbucket, Crowd, Bamboo, or Atlassian apps.

What impact does this have on your project schedule?

You can renew your licenses for 3 years. The Atlassian license prices increase from February 2nd 2021. So the support and the corrective maintenance of your applications are maintained until February 2024, date at which the Server offers are definitively abandoned.

Should I start a new project with Atlassian's Server offering?

-> it is no longer possible to purchase new licenses as of February 2, 2021.

In view of the announcements, we do not advise you to start today on the Server offers.

Choose Atlassian Data Center or Atlassian Cloud?

Some companies prefer to keep their installations "on premise". The solution is to use the Atlassian Data Center offer. Priority support is included as standard. SmartView has significant experience in migrating Atlassian Server instances to Atlassian Data Center.

-> New features are offered on February 2, 2021:

  • Jira Software Data Center: "Advanced Roadmaps" (formerly "Portfolio for Jira")
  • Confluence Data Center : " Team Calendars for Confluence " (shared calendar for Confluence) and " Analytics for Confluence " (audience measurement for Confluence)
  • Jira Service Desk Data Center: "Insight - Asset Management" (data management), Insight Discovery (analysis of the enterprise network to discover new elements and map their dependencies).

An Atlassian Data Center rate increase is also scheduled for February 2, 2021.
